Ernestine Cannon (1904-1969),también conocida como Ernestine Virden-Cannon, fue una afamada ceramista norteamericana establecida en Salerno (Italia). en 1949 su obra fue expuesta en la feria de muestras de Pittsburg; a partir de ese momento se incorporó al catálogo de prestigiosas tiendas como Neiman Marcus. En 1951 su obra fue galardonada con el premio «Neiman Marcus Fashion Award» por sus «creativos diseños» que habían traído «nueva vida a la industria cerámica de Italia». Algunas de sus obras forman parte del Museo de Artes de Dallas (fuente: Wikipedia).

Esta bonita lámpara tiene un estilizado diseño en forma de botella, decorada con motivos vegetales. Se trata de una rareza, las piezas de esta autora son muy difíciles de encontrar.
Cerámica torneada a mano y vidriada en color blanco brillante. Hojas pintadas a mano en tonos degradados de gris y negro, con bordes ocres.
Firmada » Ernestine» en la base y en la parte inferior «Ernestine L94-355 GR SALERNO ITALY» y fechada en 5/6/1953.
Casquillo portalámparas nuevo, de latón dorado, con arandelas roscadas para sujetar la pantalla.
El cableado ha sido renovado.
En muy buen estado de conservación. La cerámica tiene un chip en un lateral, visible en las fotos de detalle.
Altura 50 cm.

Superb ceramic lamp, made by famous ceramist Ernestine Cannon (1904-1969).
Ernestine Cannon (1904-1969), also known as Ernestine Virden-Cannon, was an American ceramicist and designer of dinner ware whose business, Ernestine, was based in Italy. Cannon lived in Salerno during the Second World War, where in 1948 she established her business in response to the post-war poverty she saw there. In 1949 the earthenware produced to Cannon’s designs was featured at a Pittsburgh trade show by her exclusive representatives Fisher, Bruce & Co, bringing wider attention to her work and leading to its sale through department stores such as Neiman Marcus. In 1951 Cannon was awarded a Neiman Marcus Fashion Award, the reason given that her «creative designs» had «brought new life to the ceramic industry of Italy.
Examples of Cannon’s ceramics are housed in the Dallas Museum of Art (source: wikipedia).
This beautiful lamp has a stylized design, made in ceramic, hand thrown and hand-painted with leaves on white glaze.
Very rare piece, Ernestine’s ceramics are very coveted and hard to find nowadays.
The leaves are painted with brown edges and shades of grey inside.
Signed «Ernestine» to the base and «Ernestine L94-355 GR SALERNO ITALY» to underside.
Bulb socket new, in golden brass, with threaded rings to hold the shade.
Wiring is new.
Measures 19,68 inches high.
Very good condition. It has a chip in the lower border (see detail pic).
